I used to think “renewing your mind” meant trying really hard to think nicer thoughts. You know—“Just be positive, Kelli!” But when you’ve buried loved ones, battled health crises, or lived through a season where every day feels like dragging your soul through wet cement, “thinking positive” feels about as effective as trying to hold back a hurricane with a Post-it note.

We all know the feeling of watching someone else live the life we secretly dream of and asking ourselves, why not me? Maybe its seeing friends achieve their goals, scrolling past highlight reels online, or sitting with the stack of half-finished self-help books on your nightstand. You’re not lacking talent, passion, or even desire. You’re stuck in the loop of waiting for the perfect moment, the right opportunity, or someone else’s approval. But the truth is, growth doesn’t start with external validation. It starts with a mindset shift, a simple yet powerful question: Why not you?

My recent experience of watching my grandson walk across the stage to receive his diploma with honors filled me with immense pride and joy. I watched as he lifted his arms in victory for what he painstakingly accomplished. That moment sparked deep reflection and introspection. How long ago did the preparation for that specific moment begin? This was not just my grandson's victory; it was also a win for my daughter and son-in-law, and their parents' victory. It represented the triumph of everyone in his lineage who came before
him.

Late-night laughs with my mama group chat are my jam. I curl up under my blanket, phone in hand, and launch off a million and one memes and reels while catching up on the day’s messages. I love it. We share everything from marriage jokes and parenting tips to beauty
routines and self-care hacks. And somehow, between the chaos of overcaffeinated, under-rested moms, we still dream about protein goals, cortisone levels, step counts, and finding balance in our busy lives. Then I wonder about a deeper kind of beauty, one that does not come from skincare routines but from purity and peace. And as a sports mom, my days are not exactly peaceful.

In today’s dating and marriage culture, “compatibility” often means shared interests, mutual attraction, or similar life goals. While these things are important, Scripture gives us a deeper standard for choosing a partner: being equally yoked.
